The food banks have their hours, their paperwork, their proof-of-residence, their limits, and their quiet judgment. The government programs come with surveillance and conditions that keep people trapped in survival mode. Meanwhile, dumpsters behind every grocery and restaurant overflow with perfectly good food while families decide between eating and paying the light bill.

Fuck that arrangement.

This Mutual Aid Hub isn’t another band-aid on a system designed to profit from our isolation and scarcity. It’s a declaration of interdependence and sovereignty. We take care of our own — neighbor to neighbor — without middlemen, without applications, without shame, and without feeding the beast that creates the hunger in the first place.

It starts right here in a converted shed on Connersville soil. One simple, powerful rule co-created by the people who use it: “Take what you need. Leave what you can.”

This is how the kingdom the rebel mystic spoke of actually shows up on earth — not through empire-approved charities or political saviors, but through direct, messy, beautiful acts of people choosing each other over the machine. Table-flipping compassion that actually feeds bodies and souls.

WHY WE’RE DONE WAITING

The trap is real. The alternative is already here.

Existing pantries in Fayette County often require ID, proof of address, and operate on limited schedules that don’t match real life.
Corporate food waste is criminal while people go hungry. The system creates both the scarcity and the “solution.”
Charity models often reinforce dependence and shame instead of building power and dignity.
Survival mode isolates. Mutual aid reconnects us — and that healing is medicine for the cycles that break families.

We are not building another nonprofit.

Cool, dry, pest-proof. Build shelves from pallets and reclaimed wood (see Rebel DIY page for plans). Root cellar hacks, solar dehydrator if you’re ambitious. Minimal tracking — honor system means we trust each other more than spreadsheets.

Close the loop: compost what spoils or feed it to someone’s chickens.

Federal Bill Emerson Good Samaritan Food Donation Act + updates provide strong liability protection for good-faith donations, especially when moving through nonprofits or now expanded direct options in some cases. Indiana aligns with and can exceed federal floors.

Start with dry/canned goods. Document sources if scaling. This is not legal advice — do your own research or find a sympathetic local who gets it. The law wants people fed.

Fayette County has existing pantries and the Food Council doing good work within the system. Respect to anyone feeding people.

Our Hub is the complement and alternative — for when the hours don’t work, the paperwork feels dehumanizing, or you just want to participate in building power instead of receiving “services.”

We can coordinate strategically with existing orgs where it serves people without compromising the direct, no-strings soul of this thing. Or we can stay fully rogue. Nodes decide for themselves.
